Magic Island to Reappear in Houston

A luxury apartment complex is being built where the old Greenbriar Chateau in Houston, Tx was demolished and a seven-story Audi dealership is planned for across the freeway.

During Hurricane Ike in 2008, the once-popular dinner theater suffered water and fire damage and has been closed ever since.

Even though investors have made offers on the 22,000-square-foot property, the owner isn’t selling.

Magic Island is coming back once insurance issues are worked out, according to proprietor Mohammad Athari.

Athari, who is also a neurologist, stated, “My heart still is in it. It’s a highlight of Houston.”

The concept is scheduled to be the same, he added, with dining, comedy and magic, but there will be improvements made to the structure.

“We want to make sure it’s first class,” Athari added.

Free Bus Rides Coming to Downtown Houston

A free bus service to serve downtown Houston, Tx is expected to launch in early June.

The service, called Greenlink, is scheduled to shuttle riders along a 2.5-mile route around downtown.

The buses are scheduled to make 18 stops to office buildings along Smith and Louisiana, the George R. Brown Convention Center, Macy’s, Discovery Green, Houston Pavilions, the Central Library, hotels, shops and other spots.

Seven buses are scheduled to operate from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, about seven to 10 minutes apart.

They’ll run on Compressed Natural Gas and and have perimeter seating and front-mounted bike racks.

The vehicles, which are scheduled to be labeled with a Greenlink graphic, are being manufactured by Gillig LLC.

The Downtown District has signed a four-year agreement with Metro to operate the Greenlink service.

The Houston Downtown Management District, BG Group and Houston First Corp. are scheduled to share the project’s operating cost.

New Audi Dealership Opens in Houston

A subsidiary of Sonic Automotive Inc. is planning a seven-story retail and service facility for Audi on 1.5 acres in Houston, Tx, at the southeast northeast corner of Greenbriar and the Southwest Freeway.

The building would be the auto brand’s largest flagship dealership in the U.S., according to documents filed with the City of Houston Planning and Development Department.

The design has a smaller footprint than the traditional car lot, which usually spans multiple acres and features a series of low-rise buildings.

The new facility was designed with a pedestrian level showroom, many floors of parking and substantial greenspace, according to the city document.

The building would be an estimated 175,000 square feet.

According to commercial property broker Greg Lewis, the parcel is a prime site for a car dealership because of its freeway exposure and access.
